I don't mind snow. It can snow all it wants. I just don't want to drive in it. Ever again. Seriously.
Monday night my four year old's knees swelled up really big and they were hot to the touch and they were very red. He was also running a fever. So I took him to the doctor on Tuesday and the his doctor was very concerned. He was so concerned that he sent me to a Children's Hospital about 20 minutes away. We both knew it was supposed to start snowing. The schools had already said they were having early dismissal. So I went and picked up my oldest at school and the four kids and I all went up to the Hospital. I didn't want to chance not getting back in time to get my oldest. My husband was out of town.
Well, long story short...my four year old is fine. Just sick. The ER doctor at the hospital told me it was the flu and it was not uncommon for joints to ache. ::furrows brow:: I'm not so sure about the swelling and such. But my little boy let the doctor roll his legs around and he told him it hurt, but it wasn't bad enough that he flinched or cried when the doctor was moving his legs around. I had no idea the flu could make specific parts of the body swell. I am still keeping a very close eye on him. He is still sick, but he said his knees don't hurt anymore. Ironically, mine do. So I guess maybe it is the flu. I'm sick, too, now. Yay, me.
While we were at the hospital, it started snowing. In fact, we hadn't even been there an hour yet. We got out of the ER around 2:30. The kids and I all got a drink and all that fun stuff because I figured we would be on the road a couple hours. Boy, was I so wrong. At 6:45...we finally got out of the parking garage. Yes, four hours to get out of a parking garage. The line was right behind our vehicle and it wasn't moving. Security came by and told me a two hour wait because traffic was so backed up outside of the hospital. So the kids and I went back inside and ate dinner. We finally got out of the garage...and 45 minutes later we were three blocks from the Hospital. Oh, fun! I was watching police men push cars up this really big hill. Interesting. They finally gave up and closed the road...and then of course traffic started moving. I aimlessly drove through the city looking for the highway. I finally found it...sort of. It was covered with snow. So that was very slow going. I watched a tractor trailer almost jack knife, and I myself lost control once and had to zig-zag my way up a hill. Scary stuff, but obviously we made it home OK. It was only a, um, 7 hour ordeal that usually takes 20 minutes. I was so, so thankful to get home safely with my babies!
Like I said, if I never have to drive on snow again, it will be too soon.
