Been kind of busy

Just getting things done.  Living through my days without really enjoying them.  I need to get out of my funk.  I'm currently trying to get Alexia the help she needs with speech and I am also in the process of having Robby evaluated.  He is nearly 22 months old and he doesn't say a word.  I normally wouldn't be alarmed, but he *did have some words and he lost them.  He said "kitty" around 13 months and he said "Buh!(Bus)" around 15 months.  And for a long time everything was "Da!"  Now he just looks at you with a silent stare.  So I am trying to get him speech.  Mostly because I don't want him to have the troubles Alexia is now having.  I would love to avoid all of that with Robby.  I think getting him help before he turns 2 (3) will help!

The weather has been beautiful, so we have been outside a lot.  Spring break is here, and now the weather will be cold by the middle of the week.  Thanks, Mother Nature!  :-)  I can't complain, though.  Not after what Mother Nature has recently given to California, OK, TX, etc.

I am still pretty sad.  :-(

I finally did it

I have had a broken tooth for over a year.  Two different dentist wanted me to have it pulled.  I just couldn't do it.  The front of the tooth was missing, and I was terrified about how someone could pull it.  So finally I went to yet a third Dentist and he said root canal.  I didn't want to do that, either.  In the end, though, it helped me past that mental hump.  It helped that the Dentist was very reassuring.  The root canal itself wasn't really all that bad.  Keeping my mouth open that long was difficult.  Amazingly enough, I have a very small mouth.  It doesn't open very wide.  I don't even eat sandwiches in the traditional fashion because of it.  I break a bite off and eat it that way.  Weird, huh?  They did put in a little rubber thing to hold my mouth open, though.  That helped.  Otherwise I would have snapped shut on him, lol.  A note to anyone who has never had a root canal and needs one done....keep your eyes closed.  It's easier if you can't see the tools they are using, LoL.  I saw the drill by accident when he was almost done.  I also saw the trays of stuff they used when I was leaving.  Yikes!  Don't look!  Honestly.  ;-)

Update

I did get a phone call this morning from the school.  Alexia will be screened by the Psychologist soon and then our minds all meet again on April 11.  I was very relieved to receive the phone call and know that Alexia will be screened very soon and the process has begun.  It's nice to know they aren't waiting around.

Rules don't always help us

The standards and rules put in place by the school system are not helping my daughter.  They are hurting her.  I am so frustrated I could spit nails.

Alan and I met with the speech pathologist and Alexia's teacher and counselor last week.  Long story, so here is the short version.  After an hour and a half of putting holes into the Pathologist IEP for Alexia, we still hadn't really gotten anywhere.  Alan, Alexia's teacher, and I would all like to let Alexia repeat Kindergarten.  She is in no way ready for first grade because of her speech.  It is holding her back academically.  She can't spell the words because she can't say the sounds.  She knows the sounds, she just can't say them.  So when she says them, they translate incorrectly onto the paper when she writes it down.  Math is also very difficult for her. She is a very young Kindergartner so we feel repeating Kindergarten would be best for her, with small group or private help the rest of the day.  So she would still be going full day.  Another Counselor came in and agreed to that, (she even suggested it in the first place), but the problem is the rules set by the school system.  Bottom line is Alexia is smart and she won't test within the guidelines to hold her back.  The standardized tests won't catch those that are having difficulties because of a phonological disorder.  So we asked to have some screening done to try...but that is all the school system is willing to do.  To "try."  I am going to work on my end to do what I can do.  Let's hope and pray that something gives and Alexia can get the help she needs.  She is getting more speech therapy each week because Alan wouldn't give.  That is a good thing.  Thanks, dear.

They just keep coming

Alexia and I were reading "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle last night.  We got to the page with the cocoon and I asked her "What did he make?" and she said "A Racoon!"

More funnies

Jacob was re-capping his soccer game today.  They only had five team members show up for his team.  Well, one little boy got hurt and watched the rest of the game safely from his Grandma's lap.  So then there were four.  Jacob recapped it like this:

"We had five players, but then one member was damaged, so we only had four!"

DH and I just looked at each other and mouthed 'Damaged."  Too funny!  Not funny that the little boy was hurt, (he's fine, btw), but Jacob's choice of words gave us a chuckle.  He also "damaged" his knee today when he wiped out on the sidewalk.  You just can't tell a kid to walk, not run, on wet pavement.  I guess he wanted to see why for himself.
