The beast within

That would currently be me.  I am so darn cranky.  It doesn't help that I have a certain two-year-old that just can't seem to keep from opening the refrigerator and dragging everything out of it.  Or begging to eat or drink something, then never doing it so it gets wasted.  Or dragging everything out of my pantry.  And my favorite, dragging everything that I just cleaned up back out and scattering to to all lengths of the house.

The beast is also coming forth due to a certain seven-year-old that thinks he has to reply with a smart aleck comment to everything I say.  For example:

Me:  "(Name), please pick up the trash you just scattered all over the floor."

Him:  "No, you do it.  For goodness sakes, woman, do your job."

Um, yeah.  I'm so ready for that to stop.  "I don't have to!", "I'm the boss!", "You want to see me hit, here...I hit you!"  It's been an extremely long month.

Don't forget the four year old that is wonderful until about 5 P.M. when his beast within comes forth.  "No, never!"  Aye-yi-yi.

And someone PLEASE tell me what is so hard about depositing your trash in the trash can?  If I had a penny for every time I have told one of my kids to put their trash in the trash can instead of just dropping in onto the floor of whatever room they were currently in, I could pay off our mortgage right now!

Am I the only one?

That has strange children?

So there I was, at something something in the morning.  I don't know what time it was.  I was snoring happily and it was still very dark out.  And all of a sudden, I heard a tinny sounding dinosaur.  This dinosaur came barging into my dreams uninvited, darn it!  Naturally, the sound of a dinosaur in my bedroom in the middle of the night startled me awake.  My eyes popped open only to find a dinosaur right against my nose roaring away.  And it was lighting up, so everything glowed red.  What the...???

Ah, yes.  It all came back to me pretty quickly.  Dinosaur cake topper.  Fourth, Fifth or Sixth birthday.  I can't remember which.  And my almost eight-year-old still has it and plays with it.  So why was it pressed to my nose roaring at me in the middle of the night?  Ugh.  There was my oldest, standing there frantically telling me "It's an emergency, Mommy!  Tiffany (one of our cats) did something to me and now I'm bleeding to death!"  Then he proceeded to take the cake topper dinosaur and hold it against his side while pushing the button so I could see.  Ok, first off...have you ever tried to see blood in a dark room by shining a dim red blinking light on it?  Um, no, that didn't work.  So I turned on the light while my eyes screamed  "What do you think you are doing!" at me.  I saw a tiny little scratch on my son's side and told him "You aren't bleeding to death.  Go back to bed."  Am I a great mom or what?  He insisted on having a Band-Aid so I doused the "gaping" wound with an alcohol wipe and told him to stick a Band-Aid on it and try to go back to sleep.

I just want to know why he woke me up with a cake topper dinosaur instead of simply shaking my shoulder and saying "Mommy!."  I mean...isn't that what most kids do when the cat "mortally wounds" them in the middle of the night?

The moral of this story is "Those who own cats should wear a shirt to bed."

A child's sense of Style

Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, I didn't have children.  I used to see children in the park or at the mall or in a store dressed in very crazy outfits.  I usually just snickered and didn't really think much more about it.  After all, I have never really been a fashion guru.  Now that I have children of my own...I fully understand why children are sometimes seen wearing orange shorts with purple polka dots paired with a Red and blue and green plaid heavy sweater with rain boots finishing off the outfit.  In the middle of summer on a hot sunny day, no less.

I confess, my children have been seen wearing such outfits while wandering the aisles of the grocery store with me.  It's just one of those things that some Mom's tend to have to take with a grain of salt.  I have to get four kids dressed and primped and ready to go to the grocery store.  That takes hours as it is.  I just don't want to fight with them to change their clothes; therefore delaying our trip another two hours...

...and in the end, I don't think it really matters when I am wearing work out pants with 10 year old shirt with holes in it just because I love that shirt.  Not to mention the medusa hair style I seem to have been sporting as of late.

Trying to get a routine going

Well, we have the first week of school under our belt.  It was a great week overall.  Challenges were encountered, and we do need to work through those.  The kids need to actually fall asleep soon after I put them to bed.  They didn't get enough rest this week even though they were in bed by 8 P.M. every night.  My oldest gets over stimulated very easily.  It's not a pretty sight.  So I need to come up with something calming to do right after he gets off the bus, or else he will lose it.  Right now the two kids come in the living room and everyone talks at once and it's total chaos and then my oldest loses his grip on his emotions because "You aren't listening, Mommy!"  ::sighs::  I'll figure it out, and we will get into a routine.  It will take a few weeks.

As for other updates, some yahoo is still bringing their dog to my property to relieve themselves.  I just clean it up and go on with my life.  At least they aren't putting it in my mailbox anymore.  ::smiles::  I like what my Aunt calls them.  "Bouquets."  LOL!  So I have "Bouquets"  in my yard every morning.  How nice for me!  ::grin::

My daughter has been going to her "Summer Speech Therapy" (that started in mid-August, lol) for a few weeks now and I have seen so much improvement!  It's wonderful!  She was talking today and she slowed herself down and said "fffff-un!"   I was so proud!  Usually it's "pun."  She's been getting all the right sounds in all the right places for the first time in her six years.  I'm very, very proud of her.  I wish she could keep seeing her current therapist.  The therapist has shifted to work on pronouns since my daughter has been doing so well with articulation.

My hubby continues to rot in the Navy.  I just pray for him every day hoping something gives so he can happier.  He still plans to get out of the Navy when his time comes up.  We shall see what happens.

I'm sure there is plenty more to update, but I need to get my youngest in the tub so we can go off to Church.

:-(

Is there anywhere  the weather isn't one extreme or another?  We need to do something to heal our planet!  This weather is nutso.  Flooding and too much rain in some areas/countries, storms, tornados, and don't forget how it is here...the earth is so dry it's cracking and water mains are breaking all over town.  And it's HOT.  We are supposed to break a record today and be up to 101.  We're almost there.  It's been averaging in the 90's this entire summer, and this is unusual for here.  Some schools are closed or being dismissed early.  It really is nutso.  To make it even more crazy, my animals are getting their winter coats already!  In 100 degree weather.  Poor things.  It's going to be a cold one this winter...

One day down

The first day is under their belt.  My four-year-old has the same teacher he had last year, so he still likes her of course!  My older two said they really think they will like their teachers.  We shall see.  They are both first year teachers.  I'm a little worried, but I have faith.  My oldest had a first year teacher his Kindergarten year and I didn't like her at all.  I am trying my best to keep an open mind.  I admit, I am more than a little worried that the kids' school can't seem to hold onto Teachers.  Budget cuts are going on all over the place, and I'm thinking that is one of the factors causing the old Teachers to leave.  I know new Teachers can be really, really good Teachers.  They all have to start some place.  So, if ya'll see my mind closing up...poke me and make me look at the facts on the Teachers and not just my own ideas.  ::smiles::

Almost time!

School starts on Monday!  The children are super excited.  They are literally bouncing around.  They ask me five times a day what day it is and "How many days until school!"  I just love these ages.  It won't be so fun once they reach Middle School and High School I am sure.  We now have a wall calendar back on the wall, so they have just been counting the days off on it since I put it up yesterday.  I have a big star on Monday.  I'm looking a little forward to it.  It will be so quiet around here with just the baby and I, though.  I mean, he doesn't really talk and he loves to just play quietly with me.  It's going to take some adjusting to being able to grocery shop without urging children along the entire way.  ::can't hide a grin::  I admit, I am looking forward to peaceful grocery shopping!  You know I'll do it all during the week and not on the weekends at all.

I am going to have to work on the bath schedule, though.  I started all of the kids at 9 and the last one didn't get into bed until 11.  Hmm, that's not right!  I don't remember it taking so long.  I'm going to have to give the Baby his in the morning, and start baths right after dinner, I guess!  Grandma bought them new bath crayons, so I am positive that is why the baths took longer, lol.  My tub sure was decorated prettily!

So embarrassing

I went grocery shopping this evening and there was a lady in front of me.  She had some diapers and stuff up on the belt and then put the bar up so I thought she was done.  I started loading my groceries up there and the lady looks at me with an incredulous look, but she didn't say anything.  I glanced around and she still had a cart full of groceries.  Oops!  I was so embarrassed.  Luckily I didn't have that much stuff up there yet.  I can't believe I did that, though.  I was trying to cut places in line on a poor lady who had to be at least 8 months pregnant and had been standing in line for a while.  I ended up switching lines because that cashier was very, very slow.

Howdy

Things are going along.  August is just proving to be very busy.  I think August is generally a busy month all around for a lot of people.  My oldest is home safe again.  I'm very happy to have him back under my wing.  The plan was to give him a week home before school started to get re-wired for home and the rules here; however, instead we get to jump into running around meeting teachers, going to speech therapy, and a couple of other things that need done.  I'll be around...mostly I'll check in now and then.

Oh...my little girl turned six!  I have been meaning to post with pictures, but I haven't gotten the pictures uploaded yet.  They will come.  I can't believe she is six already!  Happy Belated Birthday, Chickie!
